where ever you go, there you are
where ever you go, there you are
the king kong remix project

king kong is one of the most racist movie plots in the whole of cinematic histoire. explorer goes into the wild jungle, and captures large dark beast. beauty (the white woman) kills the beast, and the beast is shot for going out of it's territory.

the villans are native savages, and the victim is a cute blond lady. but is there away to reclaim these vintage classics? can we remix king kong like it's no tomorrow? can we use the same imagery to reverse the image? what would it look like if the africans came to the great white north, and taught us a thing or two on being civilized? perserving what we have, eating communally, whatever advice might bloom. reversing hegemonies, letting the south lead the north to an alternative "development".

okay so i'm mixing development theory with film, but what i'm really trying to communicate is that a remix is in order. someone has to remix king king already. last year i mixed a video of found racialized footage in the mainstream media. it was easy and fun to do. it helped me link and break down stereotypes, while at the same time exploring issues of cultural appropriation.

i dare you to remake king kong.

elle.
