Right now I'm helping to organize a benifit fundraiser for BilwiVision, a grassroots indigenous TV station based out of the university URACCAN on the Caribbean coast. Bilwi is one of the partners in the VIVA! Project, a transnational bilingual community arts exchange based out of York University. We will be screening videos, and exploring the many beautiful possibilities of community-based, autonomous media. Resurgent Voices: a post-hurricane benefit for BilwiVision and autonomous media in Nicaragua

BilwiVision, based out of URACCAN University, is a community-based TV station run by Indigenous and Creole youth on the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua and is a partner in the VIVA! Project, a transnational community arts exchange. On Sept 4, Hurricane Felix struck the coastal region, devastating communities and damaging basic infrastructure. The benefit will support their autonomous media work, involving communities in the reconstruction and self-determination of the region. Local community media will also be featured as part of this exchange.

The program includes screening of videos from The VIVA! Project, BilwiVision and The Story Project.
