Coffee Smoothies

lately i have been trying to finish up my bachelor thesis on media education, and it has been tough. i have enveloped myself in abstract theories, ranging from media studies, performance studies, post-modernism, post-structuralism, post-colonialism, anti-racism, hip-hop, and community arts. i've gone from believing that i have no right to write this paper as a white woman coming from a privileged class background, to acknowledging that i do have something to contribute as a marginalized young woman who has struggled within traditional education paradigms. i wanted to look at everything from every angle, and now i am having to stop the search short and settle on a few general themes, and a set base of theory. the time is now to finish this thing, as i am starting my masters at york in the fall.

so why am i here blogging? well, it is my bff erin's bday today, and i am not there to celebrate it with her in costa rica. while it is hard for me to send a present in the mail, i thought i would share a present with her, this little recipe that i have devised to get me through these hard times. it's called a coffee smoothie, and i invented it in an effort to deal with the small amount of coffee that is left over after my parents have drank it all before i get up in the morning. here it goes kids:

mix 1/2 cup - 1 cup of coffee with 1 cup of the milk of your choosing, 1 banana, and a scoop of protein powder (i recommend hemp, or if you can't find that vanilla soy). add honey for added sweetness, or mix it up by experimenting with yogurt or coffee liquor (¡¡cafe rica!!). blend with ice and serve cold as a wonderful boost to your work day.
