This song just saved my life...

[Dave Matthews]
A don't stop stop your dreamin
Let yourself float apon the notion
We can work it out, we gon work it out baby
Go ahead lose yourself inside this opportunity
That we gonna make it right now, make it right now

[Marc 7even]
We live and we learn, we crash and we burn
Right now my only rhyme is this lesson I learned
You talk about trust, I talk about lust
Its not appealin as you truly speak your feelings
I be lookin at the ceiling, so concealing
I shoulda put my heart on the table
Knowin I was good and able but instead I fed your fables
If I could have you back best believe it'd be forever
Cause each and every day you would hear those four letters

[Dave Matthews]
A don't stop stop your dreamin
Let yourself float apon the notion
We can work it out, we gon work it out baby
Go ahead lose yourself inside this opportunity
That we gonna make it right now, make it right now

[Chali 2na]
These are different times but we feel the same pains
The blood of mankind runnin through the same veins
We'd like to make it right some which it remain tame
Same crimes even though they names changed
And we like different minds workin off the same brain
Passengers on different cars steppin off the same train
In the end, makin it rights the main aim
Different parts of the picture highlight the same frame

[Dave Matthews]
A don't stop stop your dreamin
Let yourself float apon the notion
We can work it out, we gon work it out baby
Go ahead lose yourself inside this opportunity
That we gonna make it right now, make it right now

[Akil]
Now if you know what I know you need to work it out
If you ain't happy with yourself you need to work it out
You havin problems with your family then work it
The things we go through just to work it
I work it out when the situations seems unworkable
unreversible but God is most merciful
Many works, Many men converse
With soul search sweat it out
when they tryin to work it out

[Soup]
With the constant complaint, we other gonna make it fly
Or we aint, I already know what some of ya think
Ima talk a hip hop and how bad its got
Then tryna pull a brother, im not
lookin for nobody to judge, you said you ain't I never thought you was
Im just tryna get with ya and pose in the same picture
So this mic thing can move the right thing do the right thing
Made for your life game, plus my man might sing

[Dave Matthews]
A don't stop stop your dreamin
Let yourself float apon the notion
We can work it out, we gon work it out baby
Go ahead lose yourself inside this opportunity
That we gonna make it right now, make it right now

A don't stop stop your dreamin
Let yourself float apon the notion
We can work it out, we gon work it out baby
Go ahead lose yourself inside this opportunity
That we gonna make it right now, make it right now

The Sky is the Limit

After lots of fiddling with code I finally got the videos to work! Thank god, I was starting to think that I'd have to take away the extrordanaire before multi-media artist. Or did I do that already? Sounds kinda egotistically anyways. I'm starting to organize my online works here. I want to get all of my video work online and organized so that when I apply for jobs or schools it will all be together in a portfolio already.

I'm also starting to do some major work on my thesis. I discovered this beautiful thing called Multimodal Ethnography. Usually I am hyper critical of that word and shy away from it, but the articles I'm reading are really relivant to my research so I'm going with it.

So why am I getting so much done lately? Well, I just got offered an internship in Costa Rica with Netcorps! It is not for sure yet, as I have to check with my professors, as well as with the organization. I think that it would be the perfect job as it deals with youth, human rights, and media. I checked out the gallery on the organizations website and there are pics from Capoeira and Breakdancing workshops. It seems really similar to the ArtsBridge program that I worked with this summer in Los Angeles.

Anyways I hope that everyone enjoys the videos. I'm glad to have them back online, so I'll be posting more of my work in the future. My server is a bit slow, so please be patient.

Manufactured Landscapes

This is the film of the year, hands down. I keep on having flashbacks of images of sweatshops mixed with e-waste. If you haven't see this yet, go while it's still in theatres as the photography is stunning and should be viewed in high definition for maximum effect.

the king kong remix project

king kong is one of the most racist movie plots in the whole of cinematic histoire. explorer goes into the wild jungle, and captures large dark beast. beauty (the white woman) kills the beast, and the beast is shot for going out of it's territory.

the villans are native savages, and the victim is a cute blond lady. but is there away to reclaim these vintage classics? can we remix king kong like it's no tomorrow? can we use the same imagery to reverse the image? what would it look like if the africans came to the great white north, and taught us a thing or two on being civilized? perserving what we have, eating communally, whatever advice might bloom. reversing hegemonies, letting the south lead the north to an alternative "development".

okay so i'm mixing development theory with film, but what i'm really trying to communicate is that a remix is in order. someone has to remix king king already. last year i mixed a video of found racialized footage in the mainstream media. it was easy and fun to do. it helped me link and break down stereotypes, while at the same time exploring issues of cultural appropriation.

i dare you to remake king kong.

elle.
