hello my name is jo and i live in viking alberta... actually i lied, my name isn't jo, but i am living in viking. it is pretty crazy being in rural alberta. lots of ranchers n' oil peeps so it makes it kinda ackward being a vegan bikergrrl. my host mamma is a cowgrrl spinster named billie-lou and we live in her rodeo themed basement. we are in love with her 16-year old son who draws pictures of mushrooms and hippies and wants to be a tatoo artist (even though we've never met him). my counterpart is named carmen and we are so alike that its scarey! we will be working at the local paper, and hopefully researching feminist popular education and the experiences of rural young wimmin. i am so excited to actually start. right now we are just in the community profile stage... getting to know the locals and the different issues in the community. i really like this program because it strongly questions ideas of traditional development theory and strives for reaching sustainable community oriented solutions. it is cool to be actually practicing participatory research as opposed to studying it theoretically. i will keep you all updated with pictures to come.

to me.... i should be packing but instead i am slumped and hung over my computer pouring out the remainder of my soul. last night was good shit.... there was major crunkage and other debouturies. it is all about summer night patios. i am going off to alberta today and i am scared shitless. i have never been away from home for such a long time before. i wonder if i will fall in love with the prarie sky? i have a feeling i'm going to be VERY cold and see a lot of stars. weh oh. props.
